Position Description
The successful candidate will work with teams of innovative product development engineers and scientists to capture inventions and will work with experienced patent counsel to prosecute patents. The IP Manager is responsible for protecting the intellectual property using patents, registered designs, agreements, copyrights, trademarks and trade secrets and know-how. The IP Manager is also responsible for minimizing the impact of intellectual property rights owned by competitors on the company's profitability by invalidating their rights, avoiding infringement or negotiating licenses.
Responsibilities:
- Perform patent preparation and prosecution in assigned technical areas.
- Evaluate invention disclosures.
- Interact with scientists and inventors to monitor assigned technical areas for developments.
- Promoting and organizing regular intellectual property reviews to establish priorities for protecting intellectual property
- Conduct preliminary patent/prior art searches.
- Conduct preliminary infringement analyses.
- Review proposed publications for issues of patentability.
- Maintain working knowledge of U.S. and foreign intellectual property laws.
- Negotiate confidentiality and materials transfer agreements.
- Managing the Company's IP portfolio.
Requirements
- MS Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering/Science Required.
- Ph.D. preferred.
- Strong understanding of intellectual property assets, intellectual property, asset management, and trademark.
- Minimum two years experience with patent management.
- Excellent technical and analytical ability with excellent problem solving skills.
- Applicant must have a positive attitude and be a team player with exceptionally good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with highly specialized research and development scientists, engineers and marketing people is a must.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in working in a computerized office environment with working skills in the use of Microsoft Office products, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Notary preferred
